Summer Concert 9 July 2022

10/07/2022

Despite various band members having been smitten by the Covid contagion during the term, sufficient forces were gathered in St Edburg's Church, Bicester to produce a full programme of pieces, including (with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in mind) William Walton's Crown Imperial and a selection of well known themes from James Bond, Thunderbirds, John Williams and Henry Mancini.

Island Pond Wood - 22 May 2022

22/05/2022

The day was sunny and warm - ideal for the Friends of Island Pond Wood who had organised a day of activities and provided an opportunity for the band to assemble and play a varied selection of light music.

Festive fun

19/12/2021

A small group of our members provided the music for the Kingsmere Christingle Service. Despite the cold (the service took place outdoors as a Covid precaution) we very much enjoyed supporting this event in the community where we rehearse.

On Sunday 27th September 2021 the band played its first gig as a full band since its Christmas 2019 concert. We performed on the Market Square in the town as part of the Bicester Festival. Click on the button below to see some of the highlights.

Band growth!

21/09/2021

For the first time in our history, we have had to start a waiting list for potential new players. This is because we have just reached our maximum of forty members (our rehearsal space will only accommodate this number of players).

Wendy, our talented conductor, performed in Oxford with Pavlova Winds. She played the oboe in Poulenc's trio for piano, oboe and bassoon. Click here to watch the concert.

July 2021 update

13/07/2021

We really enjoyed our rehearsals at Kirtlington Village Hall. We were lucky with the weather. There was only one week when a torrential downpour forced us to set up inside; every other week we were able to use the outside terrace and rehearse outside in the sunshine, overlooking the playing field.

We have now broken up for the summer, but we are looking forward to returning to St Edburg's School Hall for indoor rehearsals in the Autumn.

Back to face to face!

08/06/2021

We had our first in person rehearsal in over a year!

We met on the terrace outside Kirtlington Village Hall and spent an hour working on some of our newer pieces.

It was fantastic to see each other in person and to be making music together again.

Online performance - Inspector Clouseau Theme

09/02/2021

We've made another recording of band members playing from their homes. Mike, our oboe player, created the video, and Wendy, our conductor, edited the audio track. Click the button below to watch us perform The Theme from Inspector Clouseau by Henry Mancini and arranged by James Kazik.
